CIF Resutlts and Playoff Schedules

Hello - the following are our recent results at CIF, coupled with the CIF playoff schedule for Softball and Boys Tennis.

GOLF  (from Coach Szczudlak)
Irvine placed fourth in the CIF Southern Regional Team Championship, two strokes behind Northwood.  The boys played well.  As a team we improved by 17 strokes over last year’s CIF score.  Although the match is primarily a team event, one of our highlights was ANDREW LIAO shooting an overall tournament best (-4) 68 (also his personal best in competition this year!).  This event marked the last high school competition for Andrew and Edward, both four-year varsity lettermen.  Their absence next year will definitely be felt.  But their work ethic, attention to detail, and overall gamesmanship have provided the underclassmen with a blueprint to success.  Thank you both!

CHRIS CHOMYN will continue his individual playoff run on Thursday at the CIF Individual Championship at Rancho San Marcos G.C. in Santa Barbara.  If he qualifies there, he’ll move on to the CIF state tournaments the following week.

·         See attachment for a photo of the group as they were wrapping up their putting before the match began.

Spring Sports update

The Spring Sports seasons is wrapping up, with the following teams and individuals qualifying for CIF!

BOYS GOLF  (from Coach Keith Szcuzudlak)
Out of 117 golfers, Chris Chomyn qualified in first place with a (-4) 68 and will advance to the CIF Individual Championship & SCGA Qualifier in Santa Barbara next Thursday.  He will compete against 60 other golfers for a chance to advance to the CIF/SCGA Southern State Regional Championship.  This is most likely the best score a boys golfer from IHS has posted in CIF competition in school history.  It was an amazing performance and he represented Irvine High very well.

Andrew Liao missed the cut (was 73!).  He too played well, but the competition was tight all day.

Our at-large bid was accepted!  The team will play next Monday in the CIF-SS Team Championship at Mile Square G.C. @ 8:00am.  I will send more details on that Wednesday after we meet with the team at practice Tuesday.
