GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY  (from Coach Hurst)  The Irvine Girls XC team has had an exciting start to the season this year!  After running the best trails around Orange County over the summer—including Crystal Cove State Beach, Black Star Canyon and O’Neill and Irvine Regional Park—the girls team began the season at the 32nd Annual Laguna Hills Invitational.  14 girls set new PR’s on the course, six received medals for finishing in the top 40 of their races and the frosh team placed 4th overall.
The following week, the team competed in the 35th Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic held at the Great Park here in Irvine.  This spectacular event brought teams across the county and beyond to race under the lights on a near perfect Friday evening.  The varsity girls improved upon last year’s showing by placing in seventh place out of 22 teams.  16 new PR’s were set on the course and 10 girls received individual medals for placing in the top 100 of their races.
Last week, we took part in the 22nd Annual Sunny Hills Wayne Walker Cross Country Invitational at Craig Park in Fullerton.  Freshmen Rebecca Rea led all runners, placing second out of a field 152 while leading the freshmen team to a third place overall finish.  6 girls set new PR’s and nine received individual medals for finishing in the top 40 of their races.
